“The most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it's all that matters.”
― Audrey Hepburn
Hello dear reader,
today there are so many blogs out there; so many thoughts, and so many topics to choose from. So I get it! I get it if you're wondering why you should take your precious time and fill it with reading mine. My answer is simple: because it could be fun! If you are a bit like me you try to figure out the use of practically everything. Should I do this or should I do that? Will this teach me something vital? Will this bring me further in life? I often forget to ask myself a very important question: Will it bring me joy? And yes, it truly is an important question. Just think about it! Having fun will:
… lift your mood. You will be nicer to others, their moods will lift and they will be nicer to others as well. Result: the world will be nicer. 😊
… recharge you. When you feel sad or a little depressed you often find yourself unable to get yourself to do anything. You feel lifeless and everything’s a burden. But if you have fun, you’ll start to feel better. You will be more energetic, you’ll want to do more and eventually more things get done.
… be good for your health! It is said that joy boosts your resilience and wellbeing. Since joyful people have less stress, they experience less chance of having a heart attack, have a lower cholesterol and live longer.
Okay great, but…
Yes, I know life isn’t always a walk in the park, and horrible things happen every day, but that doesn’t mean that on top of that we need to rob ourselves of every ounce of happiness we can find. I know it isn't always easy to get yourself to feel happy once you're feeling down, but you can at least try by not denying the possibility of having fun.
And don’t get me wrong: I am NOT saying that you should dismiss something simply because you don’t like it. Some things are no fun at all, yet still very important. I mean it the other way around. When you for example like to draw and you wonder if you should do it you shouldn’t ask yourself if it will make you a famous artist and bring you eternal fame, realise that it won’t and therefore dismiss it, but ask yourself if drawing right now will make you happy, and just do it!
So what activities bring me joy? I think it’s not very hard to guess, but writing is definitely on the top of my list.
When I write I can completely lose myself in what I am doing. When my focus is entirely on the story I feel more creative than ever and then when I stop I feel recharged and ready to take on the world! (Okay, maybe that’s a little over the top, but I'm sure you get my point.) But this doesn’t just happen when I write. The same thing can happen to me when I draw, read a really good book, garden or listen to music I love.
So wait, what does this have to do with this blog?
Nothing and everything. When you either like/love books or (my) writing, or both, my blog will hopefully bring you joy. If you ask yourself the question if it will and the answer is ‘yes’ or ‘I think so’: welcome to my blog! I will do my absolute best to keep it that way. If the answer’s a definite ‘no’: well, then I suggest you find one that will 😊
When and what will I be posting?
I will try to post at least once a week about what I am currently reading/writing, plus some things I’ve learned along the way (either from books, or in life, or during my writing sessions). I’ll try to be creative! And with that I come to the end of my very first blog post. I wish you all the best, stay safe,
and don’t forget to have fun!
Love, Annabel
