AILENE: Planet Adeliae

Hi dear friend,

I hope you are doing well. I have to admit I’m having a bad day, but I won’t let it keep me from talking to you. Writing these blogs is one of the things I’ve found myself looking forward to a lot, so I want to thank you for reading them.

Today, I will tell you more about our planet, Adeliae. I won’t bore you with all the details and only tell you about the countries that are most important for the book. First of all, I will share some general information. Planet Adeliae has five continents and 23 countries in total. The continent I live on is not necessarily the biggest one, but it definitely has the most countries. We have Cerina, Curdanaigh, Timberland, The Wastelands, La Môste, Beskett, Sephar and, of course, Ailene.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I was born and raised in the Wastelands. It’s a relatively large desert country with several mountains and valleys. One of the most famous places is Death Mountain Valley, which Lowell seeks out at the beginning of Ailene (and I, of course, let myself get dragged into his madness). I have to admit I am still glad for it, because we might have never met a very special person if we hadn’t.

We used to have our own language, but when the Council (I’ll tell you more about the Council in my next post!) decided one of the most important steps towards universal peace would be to establish a global language, a lot of it got lost. Unlike a lot of other countries, we still use some of our original words, but not too often. I realise now I haven’t even used any of them in my posts yet. I think it’s both sad and nice to have a universal language. It’s great that all humans can easily understand one another, but it is also pretty cool to each have our own words and sentences.

Anyway, let’s move on to Timberland. It’s probably my favourite country. There’s plenty of nature, mostly trees, and the temperature is almost always nice. There are cold winters with snow (snow!!), but the rest of the year it’s not too cold or too warm. It’s lovely, really, even for a Wastelander who is used to warm temperatures.

Am I seriously talking about the weather? Let’s move on to Ailene!

Ailene is probably the most important country in the book, even though it’s actually the capital city where (most of) the story takes place. It’s also called Ailene, and it’s where the Council is located (again, more about that next month). Ailene is a city of art, beauty and culture. It’s a wondrous place to be, really. The air is fresh and clean because of the many trees and flowers, and most places have a lovely serene ambiance (especially the Ailene Gardens. If you ever get the chance to visit the city, you should definitely make a stop there.) Make sure you know how to swim though, because there is so much water it’s almost like the city is floating. There are museums, theatres, restaurants and clubs (if that’s your thing), and a lot of gorgeous old buildings and monuments you can only admire. And they have a beautiful library with actual physical copies!

I’m sure you can tell I am very fond of Ailene. Maybe Timberland is my favourite country, but Ailene is by far my favourite city. I hope you’ll be able to visit it one day. If you do, make sure to let me know up front, so I can give you a tour!

There are more countries mentioned in the book, but I think I should give Jax (or perhaps someone else) the opportunity to tell you about them in future posts, since they play a much bigger role in the books to come.

I hope you enjoyed reading about the planet. If you would like to know more, feel free to ask me anything. I love responding to your messages! I also want to thank you again for reading my blog. I started writing this one feeling a little sad and overwhelmed, but I am doing much better now. Thank you <3

Next month, I will talk about the Council (I’m sure you didn’t see that one coming ;)).

Until then!

Warmest wishes,

Hayden Navarro
